Over the past years we have been able to benefit from the experience of our partners, customers and colleagues, so that we were able to present various tasks, individual approaches and solutions as part of our anniversary. Thank you!

We would also like to express our sincere thanks for the positive feedback on the 30 abstracts that we published on the occasion of the 30-year success story of the Minneapolis BlowerDoor in Europe from March to October 2019. All 30 presentations on applications and testing methods about airtightness are now arranged thematically. See here our overview of all presentations.

We wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year filled with health and success. Our office remains closed from 24/12/19 to 01/01/20. We look forward to be there for you again in 2020.

BlowerDoor DG-1000 Updates – now with Bluetooth® for easy connection to mobile devices

The firmware of the current pressure gauge DG-1000 for the Minneapolis BlowerDoor measuring system is continuously updated. The biggest news about the latest update is the addition of Bluetooth to the networking options. It allows for easier connections to mobile devices (iOS and Android) in order to use the apps “TEC Gauge” for one-point test and “TEC Auto Test” for multiple point test according to ISO 9972. The update is done by the user over the internet free of charge: By installing this latest update the Bluetooth antenna, which has been built into each and every DG-1000 from the beginning, will be activated.

Clues from measurement practice

Challenge: Airtightness measurement of very tight buildings and apartments

The constantly increasing quality of the building envelope or the apartment envelope with air exchange rates of 0.6 h-1 and smaller leads to new challenges for measuring teams during the performance of the airtightness test, which can be mastered with knowledge about an adapted way of measuring and a lot of patience.

At BUILDAIR Symposium, at symposium of the Thermography and Blower-Door Association in Switzerland, and at the 40th international AIVC conference in Belgium Stefanie Rolfsmeier explained how the measurement procedure looks like in such cases and gave recommendations on how to achieve reliable and repeatable measurement results. The technical article is available to our customers in the Competence Center on our website.

Airtightness measurement of high-rise buildings

Wind and thermal effects lead to different natural pressure differences at the building envelope. Especially when measuring high buildings, this influence must be taken into account. Søren Peper and Dr. Jürgen Schnieders from the Passive House Institute have published a guideline on how to proceed with such measurements. Customers of BlowerDoor GmbH have access to the technical article via our CompetenceCentre; customers of the Passive House Institute can find it in the knowledge database www.passipedia.org in the members' area.

Climate-friendly travel to national and international conferences, e.g. Passive House Conference in China

Paul Simons, Managing Director of BlowerDoor GmbH, was guest speaker and participant at various conferences this year. Stefanie Rolfsmeier also gave lectures at the BUILDAIR, the AIVC conference in Belgium and at the symposium of the Swiss Thermography and Blower Door Association. As usual, the routes were taken in a climate-friendly manner - also to the International Passive House Conference in Gaobeidian (near Beijing), China, about 10,000 km away.

For impressions of the trip with the Trans-Siberian Railway to China and of the Passive House Conference please see the extensive blog about the trip.

The Rn50 test - Radon measurement at negative pressure difference

Since the beginning of 2019 uniform reference values for radon exposure at the workplace apply by EU directive. So far, only long-term measurements have provided reliable results for determining the concentration. A reliable alternative method to determining the radon load in a building within a short period of time is the Rn50 test: Negative pressure is built up in the building by using the BlowerDoor system. On the one hand, the entry points can be examined with a radon measuring device and can be documented in order to seal them properly later. On the other hand, a constant radon concentration is determined via the supply air of the measuring blower after a relatively short time.

Read more about the Rn50 method in our presentation, which has been published on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Minneapolis BlowerDoor in Europe.
